The UNIFIL officers documented how Israel's was repeatedly violating Lebanon's sovereignity, and that may be 1 version why Israel wanted UNIFIL gone.Peter Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16487445526366418524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19421292.post-1153922715513471572006-07-26T10:05:00.000-04:002006-07-26T10:05:00.000-04:00Well done again. But a small added fact. The Khiya...Well done again. But a small added fact. The Khiyam (spelling was Khyam when
I was there) UNTSO post was there from the very start of UN activities in
the region. Can't say for sure when it was actually built, but it took on
major importance post-1982 because the IDF and its southern Lebanese ally
the SLA had a major prison there. I have been told by UNTSO officers that
they could often hear the screams. They also said that when the screaming
got really bad, the SLA would blow things up or shoot in the air
- as a distraction. After the withdrawal of IDF the prison was emptied, but
likely it was used by other groups. In any event the UNTSO post is
un-missable, poor choice of words perhaps, but you can see it from miles
away. Its on a hill! Check the map of UNTSO operations and cross ref the
indication of height above sea level.
No this is clearly inexcusable.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
